Pharmacists in Schools
Project Description
This innovative programme allows children aged 8 to 14 the opportunity to be "Pharmacists for the day", to encourage them to consider studying science-based career options, as well as increasing their awareness of the role of the pharmacist in the community and in health promotion activities. The School of Pharmacy at Queen’s is the first in the UK to develop an interactive programme of this type to encourage school children to engage with science. Staff and undergraduate students from the School of Pharmacy will visit schools and give children the opportunity to prepare medicines in response to prescriptions, label the medicines and dispense them. In this way they can learn how Pharmacists use scientific and medical knowledge to make medicines and to advise patients on their safe and effective use.
