Children's Film Screenings and Worklshops
Project Description
QFT is delighted to be able to present a series of monthly screenings for children over 5 years of age followed by film workshops for 8-12 year olds from December.

Sat 11 December at 2.30pm

Introduced screening of Jack Frost (USA.1998). This modern day fairytale stars Michael Keaton as Jack Frost who is killed in a road accident one Christmas. A year later son Charlie who is grieving for his father builds a snowman and gives it his late father's hat and scarf. That night the snowman comes to life and speaks with his father's voice.... Although this film deals with issues such as loss and bereavement and is centred on the father-son relationship, it's very entertaining.
Directed by Troy Miller. Cert PG. 101 mins.

Post film workshop (approx 45 mins)

This workshop will be the first of a connected series of a total of six film workshops, that will culminate in the production of a short film made by the group of participants. They can be attended on a one off basis, if there are additional places left on the day. However, as spaces are very limited, children should book for the six workshops in advance (cost for 6 sessions £12.00) with the Education Officer by tel: 90972606.

This first workshop will provide children with basic concepts of film and film making, through role play activities. The children will also be given a tour of the projection room.

Sat 8 January at 2.30pm

Introduced screening of classic children's film The Witches (PG) (Dir: Nicolas Roeg. UK. 1990) adapted from the Roald Dahl novel. A young boy, recently orphaned, is taken to England by his grandmother. At a hotel in which they are staying, a group of witches have gathered to prepare a plot to rid the world of all children. With Anjelica Huston, Mai Zetterling, Jason Fisher and Jane Horrocks.Running time: 91 mins. The post film workshop will focus on the role of directors, casting directors using role play. From this activity children will learn about the process of casting, and the work that directors do. They will also look at the process of scriptwriting and as a group begin a script from ideas of their own.

Saturday 12th February 2005

Introduced screening of the French animation Belleville Rendez-vous followed by animation workshop by local 3D stop motion animator Joel Simon. The workshop will include storyboarding and the use of sound.

All seats: £3.00 per person, parents/carers welcome. All children under 8 should be accompanied by an adult and a parent consent form needs to be signed by parents for children attending the workshop.
