Membership Committee

Terms of Reference: 

The Membership Committee is responsible for making recommendations to the Senate for co-option to membership, and for the filling of casual vacancies inthis category of membership.  When making nominations, the Membership Committee shall: 

 (a)    Take account of the experience, expertise and interests of the individuals under consideration and attempt to balance these with the needs of Senate.
(b)   Pay particular attention to the need to introduce new members who might bring a fresh approach to the work of the Senate, whilst recognising the desirability of maintaining some measure of continuity in membership.
(c)   Take account of the University's aspiration that the membership of Senate has adequate representation from both genders and both communities in Northern Ireland.

Chair:   Pro-Chancellor (or other senior lay officer)
Ex Officio:  

President and Vice-Chancellor
Two fomer lay members of Senate
One member of Academic Staff
President, Students' Union
Three independent lay assessors (appointed by Senate on the recommendation of the Standing Committee)  
In attendance:  

Registrar and Chief Operating Officer
Relevant University Officers as required

* who are not seeking re-election to Senate
** being also members of the Senate
