Eligibility
(i) Candidates must be citizens and permanent residents of the People's Republic of China at the time of application.
(ii) CSC scholarships are also open to overseas Chinese applicants that are studying outside of China at the point of application.
(iii) Candidates must not be currently working abroad.
(iv) Successful candidates must return to China upon completion of their studies and/or research.
Criteria
The required minimum academic qualifications are an undergraduate Bachelor degree with an average of 75% or above and a Master’s degree* with an average of 75% awarded by a Project 985 or Project 211 university.
*Applicants who do not have a Master’s degree, but who hold very high grades in their undergraduate Bachelor degrees, may be considered on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the School.
Applicants who have been studying outside China must hold the equivalent of a UK Bachelor Honours degree Second Class Upper Division (2:1) or better and good grades at Master’s level.
By the deadline for receipt of applications to Queen’s (15 February 2013), applicants must have met the English language requirement (IELTS or TOEFL) for their chosen degree programme (see requirements below).
Applying
Step 1
Applications for PhD admission must be made electronically by 15 February 2013 via the Queen’s postgraduate admissions online application portal at https://dap.qub.ac.uk/portal/ . Please note that the deadline has now passed and applications received are currently being processed. No further applications will be accepted.
Applicants should specify in their online application that they will be applying for the Queen's/CSC Joint Scholarship Scheme. Applicants may wish to approach individual supervisors to discuss and agree a proposed project title before submitting a PhD application.

Please note that upon fulfilling any outstanding requirements for admission to a PhD programme (for example, provision of a satisfactory Masters qualification result), students are expected to commence their PhD programme in October 2013.
*IELTS/TOEFL test must have been taken within the past two years.
**NB. Applicants wishing to undertake a PhD programme offered by the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences must normally obtain one of the following:
Minimum IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each test component OR TOEFL ibt overall score of 90 with minimum marks as follows: Listening (20), Reading (19), Speaking (21) and Writing (20).
Applicants must also satisfy the selection criteria set out by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) by completing the CSC Application Form and CSC Employer Reference Form which can be found at http://www.csc.edu.cn/. Applications to CSC must be submitted between 20 March and 5 April 2013.
