DEL CAST Research Projects (Co-operative Awards in Science & Technology)

Schools are responsible for liaising with the industrial partner and setting up the arrangements for CAST ensuring that the industrial sponsor is aware of their obligations. Please ensure that a CAST Project Application form is completed by the School and returned to the Postgraduate Office along with the decisions matching applicants to DEL CAST awards. Schools are responsible for matching up CAST projects with suitable candidates who should apply for admission and DEL funding using the on-line application system. The Postgraduate Office will check that the applicant satisfies the eligibility criteria for funding. Both the project and the industrial sponsor must satisfy the CAST criteria.

DEL Submission Rate Survey

The Department for Employment and Learning views the write-up of a PhD thesis within a reasonable time to be an effective measure of whether the student's training has been satisfactorily completed. Only those research students funded by the Department in a three year period are counted in the survey. If a department within the University fails to achieve the required target submission rate, it will be sanctioned in the following year. Please see the rules for the survey and the results of past surveys.
