Registration & Induction for PGR students

How and when do I register? (new and returning students)

The answer to this depends on whether you are a new or returning student.

New Students

Registration for new students is in two parts:

  1. On-line registration using the Registration Wizard from 12 September
  2. Completion of registration on-site, in person, to verify your qualifications and ID, and to obtain a Queen’s University ID card

ON-LINE: If you are beginning a course at Queen’s University in September 2012, you will be able to enrol on-line using the Registration Wizard from 12 September. Undergraduate and postgraduate students will receive, by post, their username and password in early September. If the password field of your credentials contains ********, then you have previously been a student of the University and you should log in using your student number and the password you last used at Queen’s. If you cannot remember your password, please contact the Enrolment and Registration Helpline on 02890 97 3223 or email reghelp@qub.ac.uk.

The Registration Wizard can be accessed from Qsis (https://qsis.qub.ac.uk) and information on how to use the Wizard can be found by following the link above. This page will provide details of how to view an online simulation of the Registration Wizard.

ON-SITE: The date and time to attend the University’s Induction Programme will be emailed to you by your School early September or immediately after your acceptance. You must check your Queen’s email account regularly during this period. For details on how to access your Queen’s email, please click here.

To complete your registration at Queen’s and be fully enrolled with the University, you must bring with you:

  • Original photographic proof of identification - this must be a valid passport or driver’s licence
  • Original documentary evidence of entrance qualifications
  • Any financial notification letters received from your Education and Library Board,  the Student Loans Company or Queen's University
  • If you are an international student, you must also bring your passport and visa. The University is obliged to retain a copy of these documents and you will not be able to register in full if you are unable to provide them. If you were required to apply for an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate, you will need to bring a copy of your certificate as the University is also obliged to keep a copy of this.

Please note that if you change any element of your application to Queen’s after 17 August there may be a delay in getting your Welcome Pack and School email. If you have not received your pack by 12 September and you are an undergraduate, please call the Enrolment and Registration Helpline on 02890 97 3223 or email reghelp@qub.ac.uk.

Returning Students

Returning students will be able to re enrol on-line using the Registration Wizard from 12 September. Please note that you must be in good academic standing and have been approved by your School to move to the next year of study, otherwise the Wizard will not be available to you. Information on accessing and using the Registration Wizard can be found by following the links on this page.

You do not need to come on-site, however if you have any difficulties accessing or using the Wizard, you can also complete the enrolment in person, using the Wizard, at the Elmwood Learning and Teaching Centre. The centre will be open from 9am – 5pm, Wednesday to Friday 12 – 14 September. If you cannot remember your password, please contact the Enrolment and Registration Helpline on 02890 97 3223, or email reghelp@qub.ac.uk.

You must complete Enrolment and Registration using the Registration Wizard before teaching starts on 24 September. Once you have fully completed all stages of the Registration Wizard, no further action is needed. Your semester timetable will be available in Qsis thereafter and your student card will be reactivated on first use.

Returning from leave of absence

Students who are returning from an agreed leave of absence should contact their School office to agree a return date.  The School will add a 'return from leave of absence' to the student's record and, in the case of students whose leave of absence began prior to the start of the current academic year, will arrange for the student's record to be activated for the current year. Once this has been completed, the student may register using the instructions above.

International Students

All of the information above is relevant to international students. However we do not post out your enrolment information as it is unlikely to get to you before you travel to Northern Ireland.

You will have your Welcome letter including your username and password emailed to you prior to arrival. If you do not receive it in advance of your departure to Northern Ireland, then you will be able to collect it when you arrive in Belfast.

International students will not be able to start the Wizard until they have visited the International Student Support (ISS) office within the International & Postgraduate Student Centre (I&PSC) to complete their Right to Study check.  If you have any queries regarding these checks please contact the ISS team for advice (iss@qub.ac.uk). Further relevant information for International students can be found on their web pages.

Please note that in addition to other verification documents noted in the “How and when do I register?” section, as an international student, you must bring your passport and visa to the International and Postgraduate Student Centre. The University is obliged to retain a copy of these documents and you will not be able to register if you are unable to provide them. If you were required to apply for an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate, you will need to bring a copy of your certificate as the University is also obliged to keep a copy of this.

All students are recommended to read the relevant sections of the Guide before using the Registration Wizard.
