Am I eligible for a Master's Degree Course?

Student at Queen's

You may register for a Master’s degree if you are a graduate of an approved University in the UK or abroad, or from the CNAA. If you are not a graduate you may still be admitted, provided that you hold a professional or other qualification which the University deems to be the equivalent of a degree.

The normal entrance requirement for a Master’s degree is a Second Class Honours Degree from a UK university or its equivalent. Specific entrance requirements are given for individual programmes in the CourseFinder and 2011 Prospectus.

If your first language is not English, evidence of competence will be required, for example, the British Council IELTS test or TOEFL.  If you are in any doubt, check with the Admissions Office.

Choice of Full-time or Part-Time Study

You may study for a Master’s degree by taught coursework over a period of not less than one calendar year on a full-time basis, or not less than two calendar years on a part-time basis. In some cases you may be required to register for a postgraduate diploma and then be permitted to continue the coursework for the Master’s degree only if you reach a satisfactory standard in the postgraduate diploma examination.

Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates

Students at Queen's

Queen’s offers postgraduate study for diplomas and certificates in a wide range of subjects. You may be admitted for these qualifications if you are a graduate of an approved university in the United Kingdom or abroad, or of the CNAA, or if you hold professional or other qualifications which the University considers to be the equivalent of a degree.

Full-time students must attend the University for a period of not less than one academic year (two years for a part-time course). It may be possible for a student to transfer registration from a postgraduate diploma to a Master’s degree after the written examination at the end of diploma coursework or, alternatively, after completing the diploma.
