Why did you decide to study at Queen’s University?
As a mature student I completed the Access Programme and felt that Queen’s offered me the opportunity to take my education to the next level and beyond. To study in a world-renowned Russell Group university with the McClay Library at my fingertips is not only inspirational but was an exceptional opportunity for a mature student like myself!
Which aspects of your course are you enjoying most?
As an English undergraduate I have been inspired by the caring environment I have found myself in. The Peer Mentor scheme and the constant support from staff and fellow students have really added to my student experience. As a mature student I was concerned about fitting in and finding friends but the School of English has made the transition from college an enjoyable one through planned activities and events and a really interesting first year reading list.
What were your first impressions of Queen’s when you started?
When I arrived at Queen’s on the first day and walked through the Lanyon Building the sense of achievement and pride was overwhelming, I felt at home immediately and knew that I was part of something exceptional and the next three years of my life were going to be inspired and fulfilling.
What do you do outside of your studies?
As a new student I decided to get involved at the Physical Education Centre (PEC). The range of classes and the gym facilities are excellent and very affordable for students on a budget. The PEC has been a great way of not only relaxing in between assignments but meeting new friends and living a healthy balanced lifestyle.
I currently live at home but I don’t think this has hindered my student experience. There is always a wealth of activities going on at Queen’s and whether it’s a coffee in the Students’ Union or a night out in Shine there is something for everyone to get involved in and most importantly, always a sense of real student spirit about the campus.
