Why did you decide to study at Queen’s University?

The Geography course at Queen’s was perfect for me allowing me to choose the modules I wanted to study.

Belfast was also a well-connected city for flights home meaning that I was still able to easily go home within the semester compared to travelling to a mainland university.

What have you enjoyed most about your course so far?

The course content is varied and relates to the wide world but also teaches you the geographies of a more local scale around Belfast. This was great for me as I could learn more about the city and country I was now living in.

What were your first impressions of Queen’s and Belfast when you arrived?

Queen’s seemed like the perfect university to me when I arrived. It was a campus university within the city of Belfast and everything was there for you without having to walk miles around the city.  I could tell that Queen’s was a friendly place and somewhere I would happily spend the next 3 years of my life away from home.

What do you do outside of your studies?

I am part of the University orchestra which practices each week with concerts throughout the semester. This was a perfect place to meet new people and make music with likeminded people.

I am also part of the Music society and Geography society which gives me further opportunities to meet new friends in my first year at Queen’s as well as giving you a break from university work which is definitely needed every now and again.

I go to  the Students’ Union with many of my friends to relax in between lectures as it’s a great place to meet. The Students’ Union also organises many social events which I enjoy going to regularly.

When I’m not working I also head out into the countryside on my bike.

Where do you like to go in Belfast?

I like to go into the city centre on a random afternoon. Most shops and restaurants are very close together in the city centre and are just a short walk from Queen’s. I also like to go out to the many local pubs and clubs in the evenings.

I definitely never have a problem finding somewhere and something to do in Belfast. I’ve had many good experiences so far from general sightseeing to partying with friends.
