Why did you decide to study at Queen’s University?
As well as it being my local university, when I attended an Open Day last year there was a really good atmosphere. Members of all areas of university life were very friendly, down-to-earth and spoke very highly of their world-class university.
Why did you choose your course? Which aspects are you enjoying most?
I have always enjoyed studying languages and the links which Queen’s has globally really appealed to me, for example the Erasmus scheme. I am really enjoying the optional modules which focus on French and Spanish history and society.
What were your first impressions of Queen’s when you started?
I felt at home right away, to be honest. I felt comfortable that this was a university which would both inspire and challenge me to reach my full potential.
What do you do outside of your studies?
Since coming to Queen’s I have taken up tennis and fencing. I am really enjoying trying new things and meeting new people.
How have you settled into living in Belfast?
Moving up to Elms Village has been a truly brilliant decision for me; I love everything about Belfast: the people, the proximity of shops and clubs, and the beautiful City Hall, Ulster Museum and the Lanyon Building itself lit up at night. I enjoy visiting the city centre to see movies with friends or to shop, and there is just the right amount of clubs to have an enjoyable but rather safe nightlife.
What advice would you give students thinking about studying at Queen’s?
Come to the Open Days and base part of your decision on your gut feeling when you’re talking to students and lecturers and walking around campus. Studying somewhere in which you know you will be happy is just as important as the course you wish to study.
