Queen's in China

One of the University’s guiding principles is the recognition that knowledge knows no boundaries, and the forging of international partnerships is central to the realisation of its Vision for the Future. Queen’s University has links with universities around the world and is committed to enhancing these partnerships still further.

In May 2009, the Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University, accompanied by a number of senior University representatives, visited China. Their visit brought Queen’s into contact with a number of prominent institutions and organisations and helped to raise the University’s profile. The visit demonstrated the University’s commitment to developing mutually beneficial partnerships with universities and higher education institutions in China.

The Queen’s delegation visited five of the 14 Science Bridge Project Partner institutions, Beijing Institute of Technology, Minzu University of China, and the China Medical University in Shenyang, to explore extending existing collaborations between Queen’s and each institution.

Queen’s visited China again in December 2009, and attended a British Council PhD Recruitment event in Beijing. This was an opportunity for the University to promote its Queen’s Science Bridge Awards and other research opportunities available at Queen’s. An initiative launched by UK Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, in June 2009, encourages UK-China collaborative partnerships in employability and entrepreneurship. As a result, the Queen’s School of Management has recently developed a student exchange programme in entrepreneurship with Shenzen University.
