Undergraduate entry requirements

Applicants with the following qualifications will be considered for direct entry to Queen's University Belfast's undergraduate Bachelor degree programmes:

  • Reifeprüfung / Matura (see table below for further details).
  • 3 UK A Levels.
  • Between 30 and 36 points in the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB). Information on required grades.

Postgraduate entry requirements

Applicants should normally have a good Bachelors degree awarded by a recognised Austrian university, or equivalent professional qualification, in order to be considered for direct admission to postgraduate diplomas or masters programmes.

Whilst the normal entry requirement for postgraduate taught programmes is a UK 2:1 (Hons) degree or equivalent, the grade required will vary depending on the degree programme. Generally speaking, for programmes requiring a UK 2:1 (Hons) degree you will normally need to have completed one of the following qualifications with a result of 2 (gut or good) or 1 (sehr gut or very good):

-    Bachelor Degree
-    Diplomstudium
-    Magister

Students interested in studying for a PhD at Queen’s University need good grades in their Bachelors and Masters programmes awarded by a recognised university in addition to a strong research proposal.

Please note that the grade required for entry to postgraduate taught programmes varies depending on the degree programme.  For further guidance, you should consult the Postgraduate Coursefinder or visit the website of the Queen's School that offers the degree programme.

English language requirements

Applicants will normally need to demonstrate a level of English equivalent to 6.5 IELTS or 90 TOEFL IBT (Internet based test). However, some degree programmes have higher or lower requirements (please check individual programme requirements in the relevant undergraduate or postgraduate University Coursefinder. INTO Queen's University Belfast offers a wide range of English Language courses, which may assist students to meet the required standard of English language to be eligible for entry to degree programmes at the University.
