We accept a wide variety of qualifications. Below you will find information on undergraduate and postgraduate entry requirements, English Language requirements, potential scholarships for international applicants and details of our overseas agents and representatives.

Undergraduate entry requirements

Applicants with the following qualifications will be considered for direct entry to Queen's University Belfast's Bachelor degree programmes:

  • If you hold a Tawjihiyya (General Secondary Education Certificate) or the equivalent, with good grades in relevant subjects , plus a recognised Foundation programme.
  • Foundation Programmes are offered at INTO Queen’s. Students who successfully complete the Foundation Programme will be guaranteed progression to the undergraduate degree programme. More information is available at
  • For holders of UK GCE A-levels, entry requirements are listed in the undergraduate coursefinder (see below). 
  • Between 30 and 36 points in the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB). Information on required grades.

Postgraduate entry requirements

Entry to graduate diploma or taught Masters programmes usually requires either a UK upper second-class (2:1) or a lower second-class (2:2) undergraduate degree. For most courses, your major subject or content of your Bachelor degree may also be considered. Please check the Postgraduate Course Finder for exact entry requirements.

The comparable qualifications from the United Arab Emirates are as follows:

UK Upper Second-Class Honours (2:1)

A good Bachelor degree from a recognised UAE Institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0/4, 3.5/5 or B/Very Good or 80%.

UK Lower Second-Class Honours (2:2)

A good Bachelor degree from a recognised UAE Institution with a minimum GPA of 2.8/4, 3.0/5 or C+/Good or 75%.

Queen's University Admissions Office staff have expertise on a wide range of qualifications from around the world and will be able to assess your application's comparability to the UK entry requirement. Please ensure you upload copies of all official transcripts and final award certificates for programmes already completed and those currently being completed.

If you are interested in Computing, Finance or Management courses, but do not meet the entry requirements, you may wish to consider a a pre-masters Graduate Diploma offered by INTO Queen's.

Students interested in undertaking a PhD at Queen’s University need good grades in their Bachelor and Masters degree programmes awarded by a recognised university, in addition to a strong research proposal.

English language requirements

Applicants will normally need to demonstrate a level of English equivalent to 6.5 IELTS or 90 TOEFL IBT (Internet based test). However, some courses have higher or lower requirements (please check individual programme requirements in the relevant undergraduate or postgraduate University Coursefinder. INTO Queen's University Belfast offers a wide range of English Language courses, which may assist students to meet the required standard of English language to be eligible for entry to degree programmes at the University. There is an active Islamic Students Society at Queen's. There are two Islamic centres nearby and shops selling Halal food are within walking distance of the University. Queen’s offers some single-sex accommodation and helps all students to find suitable accommodation for their needs nearby.
