A research degree offers you the opportunity to develop your research skills and prove yourself as a researcher. Queen’s is committed to the enhancement of research training and teaching and offers postgraduate research opportunities across all fields of study.
The normal minimum requirement for admission to a PhD/MPhil/MD is an upper second class Honours degree from a UK university or equivalent recognised qualification.

Registration is on a full-time or part-time basis, under the direction of a supervisory team appointed by the University. You will be expected to submit your thesis at the end of three years of full-time registration for PhD, or two years for MPhil/MD (or part-time equivalent).

The University offers Professional Doctorates in a range of subjects. Details are available by subject in the Postgraduate Taught Coursefinder.
Applicants to a Higher Doctorate must have a significant link to the University, normally by being a graduate of the University or a current academic member of staff. Normally applicants will also have a minimum of ten years research experience at a postdoctoral level.

The normal minimum requirement for admission to a Masters degree is a second class Honours degree from a UK university or equivalent recognised qualification. You may study for a taught Masters degree over a period of not less than one calendar year on a full-time basis, or not less than two calendar years on a part-time basis. In some cases you may be required to register for a postgraduate diploma and then be permitted to continue the course work for the Masters degree only if you reach a satisfactory standard in the postgraduate diploma.
The University offers postgraduate study for diplomas and certificates in a wide range of subjects. You may be admitted for these qualifications if you are a graduate of an approved university in the UK or abroad or, if you hold professional or other qualifications, which the University considers to be the equivalent of a degree.
It may be possible for a student to transfer registration from postgraduate diploma to a Masters degree after the written examination at the end of diploma coursework or, alternatively, after completing the diploma.
