The Libertine

Tuesday 01 December - Thursday 03 December, The Brian Friel Theatre @ The Drama and Film Centre at Queen's, 20 University Square, 7:30 pm.

A thoroughly modern portrait of a decadent age, The Libertine by Stephen Jeffreys offers us an account of the later life and downfall of John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester. Though he was an accomplished poet, satirist and pornographer, Rochester is better remembered as the notorious 17th Century rake that inspired George Etherege's The Man of Mode. The Libertine depicts a man at once in his prime and in a state of rapid decay with an insatiable appetite for wine and women, but no longer for life itself. Amidst the crowded theatres, bars and brothels of London, Rochester is the master of excess and obscenity until an encounter with a young actress forces him to reconsider his bitter cynicism and contempt towards humanity.

Negotiation Skills

Wednesday 02 December, School of Education (20 College Green), 9:30 am.

The ability to influence and negotiate is a core skill for everyone involved in any type of organisation. Many interactions in a professional environment involve a series of negotiations whose outcome could be the difference between success and failure. Effective negotiation skills help to create solutions where two parties are attempting to reach agreement where there are areas of both common ground and divergence. This practical workshop combines the science of influence with the process of negotiating: preparing, investigating, proposing, bargaining and closing. Delegates will learn and develop the skills required to create influence and negotiate for a successful agreement. This interactive workshop is facilitated using group discussion, self-assessment exercises and team activities. This practical workshop will develop the participant's ability to create lasting collaborative solutions.
