Hello everyone,
Exam time! The Students' Union are out in force, with the 'Are Ye Well?' team out and about in the library with cups of tea and a shoulder to cry on!
Exam time is here, but the summer isn't too far behind it and with that comes the stresses of finding a new house. SU Lets, the only Students' Union approved lettings agency, has now opened in the SU building. People are knocking their door down looking for houses to rent (which is the way it should be!).
Us students aren't the only ones with finals this week, so the Heineken Cup and Champions League Finals will be shown in the Speakeasy on Saturday.
See you soon, and best of luck with your exams. Remember - if you need help with ANYTHING, get in touch!

Radar Live - Thursday 24 May - FREE GIG!
Free Entry//Drink PromosGascan Ruckus aren't very subtle, they arent very tactful and they don't beat around the bush. What they are is visceral, frantic and angry. Playing sheer punk rock recalling the likes of The Flatliners and The Bronx.
2011 was a hectic year with a first single release under their belts and a UK tour completed including a sought after show at Liverpool Sound City Festival, and a support slot with Dinosaur Pile-Up. Gascan Ruckus are chomping at the bit for more.
With a second single release and UK tour in the sack, be prepared for an injection of punk rock goodness designed to cure all ailments and provide you with your daily requirement of Vitamin RIFF!
Fox Jaw Bounty Hunter
Fox Jaw Bounty Hunters from Limerick City, is made up of four gentleman; Ronan Mitchell (vox/guitar/keys), Morgan Nolan (guitar/b.vox/keys), Shane Serrano (drums/b.vox/clarinet) and Sean O’Mahony (bass/b.vox). Despite their ages, they have many years experience in the world music scene, churning out music to the masses, from punk rock and metal to traditional Irish. In late 2007, after years of touring with their past bands, they found themselves together in a practice room, collectively-minded, agreeing that they had exhausted their current projects.
Undefeated and heavily inspired, they created Fox Jaw Bounty Hunters; a rock and roll band with a seductive and gloomy sound, ignoring all trends of the current music scene. A band with a long and varied list of influences that blend and create songs from unstoppable head bopping to horror harmonies and sublime silence.

Usually at Graduation times the Academic Costume Collections are from the South Dining Hall.
As and from Summer 2012 this will no longer be the case.
The new collection point will be from Level 1, Administration Building.
An online PDF campus map can be viewed here.
The entrance to the collection point will be through the new doors facing onto the Car Park at the rear of the Administration Building. A large sign with Academic Costume Service will be above these doors. After their graduation ceremony students should return their costumes to this point. (The renovations to this area are currently underway and will be complete in time for July graduation.)

Library 24hr Opening
Twenty four hour opening for the second semester will begin in the McClay Library on Sunday 22 April and run until 5.30pm on Saturday 2 June. During this period:
The McClay Library will remain open overnight every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening.
On Sundays, the Library will open at 12 noon and the building will remain open all week until 1.00am on Saturday mornings. It will then re-open at 6.00am on Saturdays and close on Sunday mornings at 1.00am before reopening at midday.
Only members with a valid Queen’s card will be admitted. Students who have forgotten their card will not be able to obtain a day-pass outside ‘normal’ staffed hours (i.e. before 9.30pm Monday - Thursday, before 8.00pm on Friday and before 5.00pm on Saturday and Sunday). Security staff are unable to issue day passes.
Note - the Library is closed on Monday 7 May so the building will close at 1.00am on Monday 7 May and reopen at 8.00am on Tuesday 8 May.
As this is the busiest time of the year in the Library, it is particularly important that everyone shares the responsibility for making sure that a suitable study environment is maintained at all times to the benefit of the entire student population. The main points to remember are summarised below.
Access to the Library
Your Queen’s student card is for your exclusive use and you must not allow others to use it to access the Library. Each year we receive complaints that non-Queen’s students are able to access the Library when demand is at its peak. This can only happen if Queen’s students lend their cards to others who are not entitled to use the facility. If a non-Queen’s student is discovered carrying a Queen’s card, the card will be confiscated and disciplinary action taken against the Queen’s student. Please do not take the risk of having your studies disrupted in this way at such a critical time of year.
Noise
The Library is divided into zones (whisper and silent study). The location of these zones is well signposted and you are asked to respect them and behave appropriately in each.
Mobile phones should routinely be set to silent and used only in stairwells. Please also be aware of the disturbance which can be caused by music from personal earphones and keep the volume low.
During this pre-examination period we will continue to offer a trial Noise Alert Service in the Whisper Zones and Silent Study Areas of the McClay Library. Please e-mail noise.mcclay@qub.ac.uk or complete the online form at http://go.qub.ac.uk/bnbbc indicating your floor as well as the location on that floor and providing a brief description of the problem you are experiencing. A member of staff will visit the location you are working in as soon as possible. This service operates during Library during staffed hours (i.e. Monday-Friday 9.00am-9.30pm; Saturday 10.00am-5.00pm and Sunday 12.00-5.00pm).
Food & Drink
While we are happy for you to have drinks with secure lids (both hot and cold) in any area of the Library (except the Special Collections Reading Room), food should only be eaten in the student lounge area on the ground floor.
Reserving Seats
To ensure that study and PC spaces are fully utilised at all times, spaces should not be left unoccupied for more than 30 minutes. If a PC is left idle for 30 minutes, it will log out automatically. If you will be away for more than 30 minutes, you must logout completely, save your work and take your belongings with you.

Top of pageNew Internet Connection for Queen's Accommodation
