Research in the School of Planning, Architecture and Civil Engineering is carried out within the Centre for Built Environment Research, Environmental Engineering Research Centre and Institute for Spatial and Environmental Planning. These three centres returned under two Units of Assessment in the 2008 RAE: Civil Engineering and Town and Country Planning.
Commenting on the latest RAE results, Head of School Professor David Cleland said: "Civil Engineering at Queen's has continued to build on the strong position achieved in the previous RAE and is now ranked 8th in the UK with 75% of its research deemed to be world leading or internationally excellent. This confirms Civil Engineering as one of the strongest research units in Queen's."
"Town and Country Planning at Queen's achieved a dramatic improvement in the 2008 RAE. In 2008 a total of 12 staff were submitted, an increase of one third, and the UK wide ranking rose by eight places. Planning at Queen's is now rated 9th in Russell Group submissions."
