Attendance at Compulsory Components of the Course

Students are required to attend all compulsory elements (e.g. laboratory classes/workshops) and submit all specified coursework. Reasons for absence from a compulsory element or failure to submit coursework must be directly communicated to the module coordinator and must be accompanied by a valid explanation (e.g. medical certificates or other relevant documentation), normally within 3 days; the validity of any explanation will be at the discretion of the module coordinator.

The absence of a valid explanation will be considered as grounds for failure of the coursework component. Even with supporting documentation, a student who attends less than 80% of the specified compulsory elements or who submits less than 80% of the specified coursework normally will be deemed to have failed the coursework component of the module and will not have the opportunity to retake coursework in the current academic year. Where there are genuine extenuating circumstances that prevent the fulfilment of the above requirements, these will be considered on a case by case basis.
