This Centre was formed as part of the University’s strategic commitment to strengthen the research base in Medicine and Life Sciences. It brings together researchers with coherent interests in the areas of cardiac and vascular biomedical research, allowing techniques ranging from molecular through in vivo to clinical studies to be applied to improve understanding of specific biological and clinical problems. Our research seeks to understand normal function in the cardiovascular system and how disruption of this function leads to disease. Biological and pathological aspects of cell signalling are areas of research strength, with emphasis on common biomedical problems such as vascular complications of diabetes, atherosclerosis, cardiac arrhythmias and ventricular failure. Ongoing capital investment has provided modern labs and facilities.
