Postgraduate Study
The CEE welcomes interest from prospective postgraduate students wishing to pursue a PhD, particularly among those interested in designing and undertaking a rigorous evaluation of an educational intervention. The Centre currently has a healthy cohort of postgraduate students evaluating a range of topics that are supervised by academic staff.
Regular Studentships are available for full-time PhD study for UK resident and EU students that can provide funding for both fees and maintenance. The deadline for applications is 28th February although you should make contact with academic staff in the Centre well in advance of the deadline to discuss your initial ideas.
Further information on postgraduate research and funding opportunities are available on the main School of Education website.
MSc in Quantitative Methods and Statistics in Education
The Centre is currently developing a new flagship MSc in Quantitative Methods and Statistics in Education. The programme will be available from September 2014 (subject to final approval) and will be offered part-time (up to maximum of 5 years) or as a one year full-time course.
Flexibility and Short Courses
Students will be able to exit the programme at various points: those exiting after 60 credit points will receive an Advanced Certificate of Education. Those exiting after 120 credit points will gain a Diploma in Advanced Studies in Education. Those who wish to complete with a Masters will complete a 15-20,000 word dissertation. This is a supervised piece of work undertaken with a specialist in the field.
Whilst students enrolled on the MSc will be required to take six 20 point modules and a dissertation in order to complete the programme successfully, there are also opportunities for students to enrol on any of the modules in isolation as a standalone 'short course'. Those students who meet entrance criteria for the MSc may thus enrol on a short course and accumulate credit points which may eventually lead to a Diploma or Masters.
