I am Consultant Virologist in the Belfast Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer, QUB.  My main interests are in Zoonotic infections and in the development and clinical validation of diagnostic assays in microbiology.

Current Teaching:

Undergraduate

• Medical  undergraduate Phase 2 core curriculum- I deliver 6 lectures and contribute to tutorials and assessment process. I had a key role in the development of the curriculum for his course.
• Medical undergraduate Phase 2 Student Selected Component (Microbial infection) - I deliver 4 lectures and one seminar and contribute to assessment of this course. I had a key role in the development of the curriculum for his course.
• Medical undergraduate Phase 3, Science Behind Clinical Practice (SBCP). I coordinate the  microbiology component of this course (12 web based lectures, 3 videos, self assessment exercises). I led the development of the microbiology curriculum for his course and organise the microbiology component of the assessment.
• Dental 3^rd year microbiology course- I deliver virology components (3 lectures and 1 case based scenario session) of this course and contribute to assessment of this course. I expect to be closely involved in the reorganisation of microbiology teaching for dental students and the resulting new second year microbiology course.

Postgraduate

• Clinical supervisor for microbiology trainees rotating through virology.
• Member of the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency training committee for microbiology.
• Deliver regular weekly tutorial sessions and other post graduate teaching
