Histology Microscope Suite
Histology
The histology lab has a Shandon automated tissue processor, an Anglia microtome for sectioning paraffin wax sections and a Leica Ultracut UCT ultra-microtome for cutting ultrathin resin sections for transmission electron microscopy.
A range of dissection stereomicroscopes are available (including Nikon SMZ1000 and SMZ 1000, Olympus SZ-PT) for the micro-dissection of biological tissue.
Leica CM1900 UV Cryostat
With chamber cooling temperature to -35OC and specimen cooling to -50 OC, this system gives a broad spectrum of cutting conditions. Cryosections can be cut from 1-60µm. Includes UV option for UVC disinfection.
Confocal Microscope (Nikon EZ C1)
Two inverted Nikon Eclipse TE2000-U confocal microscope systems with four channel imaging and three lasers (405nm, 488nm and either 543 or 561nm). Operates with EZ-C1 software (in line with NIS Elements).
Imaging Analysis Suite
Volocity 3D Image Analysis: Allows to visualize, analyse and validate 3D fluorescence images from a wide range of confocal microscopy, widefield and high content screening systems.
Nikon Eclipse Ti and NIS-Elements Image Analysis System: High resolution imaging of cells and tissue sections using both brightfield and fluorescence microscopy. Typically applications included quantification of cell area, interstitial collagen and apoptosis using TUNEL staining.
