Education
The Centre facilitates the training of young scientists and clinicians and provides the unique opportunity to work at the interface between basic and clinical research in vision and vascular science. We have a comprehensive Education and Training programme which includes weekly seminars with intramural and extramural speakers, annual events such as the Postdoctoral Research Symposium and the International Scientific Symposium. The goals of the Education and Training programme are the development of skills and knowledge that enhances professionalism and facilitates staff and postgraduate student development within the research arena.
As part of our strategy to encourage the best bioscience undergraduate students to progress to a career in scientific research, we have a summer studentship scheme which provides a number of vacation scholarships for undergraduates to work in research laboratories during the summer. Several recent initiatives, such as the Split-Site Commonwealth Studentships from the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission have contributed to the international dimension of our research student programme.
