Biography

 

Guoyi Xu received the BEng. and MSc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from North China Electric Power University, China, in 2003 and 2006 respectively, and was with the key laboratory of power system protection and dynamic security monitoring at the same university from 2006 to 2009. Currently he is pursuing his PhD degree at the Queen’s University of Belfast, U.K. His research interest is wind power integration.

PhD Research
Title: Wind farm integration and its impact on power system operation
This project aims to study methods to improve operation of wind turbines and provide system support. Energy storage systems embedded with wind turbines are proposed to improve the overall performance of the wind turbines. By coordinating control of wind turbine converters and energy storage system, power smoothing of the wind turbine could be achieved, in addition to provide damping to the power system, enhance fault ride through of wind turbines, and provide frequency support of the system.
