won the best paper award at the
International Workshop on Code Optimisation for Multi and Many Cores (COSMIC)
held in conjunction with
CGO 2013
in Shenzhen, China. Shared-ISA multi-cores comprise of ISA-asymmetric cores which share a common, baseline ISA but can also implement additional accelerating instructions. Thread migration for adaptivity at runtime is a key mechanism to support efficient scheduling in heterogeneous multi-cores. The paper presents binary rewriting methods and techniques to support thread migration between shared-ISA asymmetric cores, enabling code portability at the binary level. The proposed method shows good efficiency compared to non-portable, statically targeted code, giving the flexibility for higher-level scheduler optimizations.
