The High Performance and Distributed Computing Research Cluster in the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Queen’s University of Belfast, is seeking excellent candidates for a two-year Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) vacancy. The successful candidate will work on the FP7 FET-Open Project “SCROPRIO”: Significance-Based Computing for Reliability and Power Optimisation. SCORPIO explores how computational uncertainty enables the design and implementation of computing systems that are extremely energy-efficient and scale gracefully under hardware errors, by working below their nominal operating point.
We seek candidates with strong background in operating systems or runtime systems for parallel (many-core, or distributed) computing systems. Candidates with background in bordering areas (e.g. parallel programming languages, many-core computer architecture) will also be given serious consideration. Candidates must demonstrate excellence through a track record of premier conference and/or journal publications, commensurate with their years of experience. A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or other directly relevant fields is a requirement for this post.
The successful candidate will join a research group responsible of the following tasks:
Implementing software for controlling reliability and power consumption of hardware components
Implementing significance-aware scheduling policies, mechanisms, and algorithms in an actual operating system, such as Linux
Exploring significance-aware memory allocation and locality management
The appointment offers additional professional opportunities to the successful candidate, including involvement in grant proposal preparation, joint supervision of undergraduate and early-stage graduate students, and collaboration with industrial partners of the HPDC Research Cluster and the School of EEECS at Queen’s. Salary for this vacancy ranges between £30,424 and £32,267, depending on qualifications and prior experience.
Interested candidates should contact Professor Dimitrios S. Nikolopoulos (d.nikolopoulos@qub.ac.uk) with a CV and a research statement. The PDRA vacancy, with details on the application requirements, closing date, and selection process, will be formally posted on the Queen’s University Job Opportunities web site by June 1, 2013.
