Applications for Project Research Groups 2013 -14
The Institute for Collaborative Research in the Humanities invites applications from colleagues wishing to set up a Project Research Group in the Institute for the academic year 2013 -14. The Institute will support up to six such groups, up to a maximum of £5,000, is available on a competitive basis for this purpose. The application procedure is described below with a closing date of 12 April 2013 at 4pm.
A successful Project Research Group in the Institute will allow colleagues from different Schools, disciplinary backgrounds and training, and at different stages of career, to work together over the year on a specific set of inter-disciplinary research questions through seminars, conferences and grant-writing activities; which embrace the Institute's annual priority research theme. Through the successful delivery of a programme of activity, a Project Research Group will ensure that the Institute is at the centre of a dynamic project-focused research environment. As such, these Groups will have an important role to play assisting the Institute to engage with and attract leading researchers from other institutions and other stakeholders, and to develop successful and sustainable collaborative project partnerships of all kinds.
Through its support of the Project Research Groups, the Institute also intends to support and encourage innovative student-centred research initiatives in the Humanities. It is expected that research students will be centrally involved in the activities of the successful Project Research Groups.
The proposed group leader should submit an expression of interest by email to mailto:icrh@qub.ac.uk before 12 April 2013 at 4pm. This should be be accompanied by a short statement from the applicant’s Director of Research (or Head of School in the case of an application from a DR), indicating their support for the application. The expression of interest should include:
- Name of the proposed Project Research Group
- Name and School of the proposed leader making the application
- Details of other staff members proposed as regular members of the Group and their QUB affiliation (the list must include colleagues from at least one other School)
- A general statement of the aims of the Group for a general readership (not more than 200 words)
- An outline of one key research question the proposed Group will consider in 2013-14
- An outline of an indicative programme of activities for the year with clear milestones and a list of proposed outcomes and estimated costs.
Expressions of interest will be reviewed by the Institute Management Board. Please note it is likely that an application proforma will be required before a final decision is taken on a request for funding.
