Biography
I obtained my PhD in 2003 looking at parenting and work life balance of mothers and fathers. Since then, I have managed a number of projects utilising both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, involving children, adolescents and adults.
Since joining the ICCR in 2010, I have been involved in a number of RCTS, most recently the Parenting UR Teen programme which was an evaluation of a parenting programme designed to empower parents, enhance their parenting skills and improve family functioning.
I am currently working on the Mind Your Health study looking at the physical and mental health of looked after children and young people in Northern Ireland.
I am also co-investigator on two projects: Music In Mind – This is an RCT looking at the effectiveness of music therapy on the health and well being of young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. (Funded by the Big Lottery); and a voluntary organisations' evaluation of their policy impact.
Research interests
My main research activities and interests have centred around: Parenting and family functioning; Identity development and health in adolescence; and Gender and work.
