Researchers

The Principal Investigator, Dr Murtagh, is Reader in the School of Planning Architecture and Civil Engineering with administrative teaching and research responsibilities. In this project he will be responsible for: the overall design and management of the research; the design of research instruments including questionnaires and in-depth interview protocols; the identification and design of sample surveys and case studies; preparing monitoring reports; conducting qualitative in-depth interviews; and preparing the final report and research outputs linked to the project. Dr. Murtagh has extensive research experience in the study of residential segregation and environmental planning. His book on the Politics of Territory (2002, Palgrave) looked at the interface between planning and segregation whilst his recent book (with Shirlow, 2006, Pluto) reflected the reshaping geography of Belfast in response to economic, special and ethnic change.

Dr. Geraint Ellis will be the Co-investigator in the project. Dr. Ellis is a Senior Lecturer in the School and has extensive research experience on equality, social justice and the role of the planning profession. Dr Ellis will have primary responsibility for the management of the project initiation and dissemination seminars and will participate in national interviews, the case studies and the programme of qualitative interviews in Northern Ireland.
