The Minister for the Environment, Alex Attwood, MLA, will be speaking on environmental issues and policy in Northern Ireland and the role of business and the community in moving towards a sustainable economy.

The event will be hosted on 9th October in the Canada Room, Lanyon Building. Tea and coffee will be served from 5pm and the event will start at 5.30pm.  It is the first in a series of Sustainability dialogues that will be held over the next 12 months.

The event was hosted by QUB oikos Society which organises student led projects to promote sustainable management and economics, from The Green Growth Conference to insect based food.

Belfast Healthy Cities (BHC) is pleased to announce a new series of lectures timed to coincide with our 25th anniversary, which will explore a range of health related topics.

The opening lecture is entitled “Health Inequalities, New Policies for a New Era” and takes place on Thursday 25th October 2012 in Titanic Belfast.  The keynote speaker will be Dr Erio Ziglio, World Health Organization European Office for Investment for Health and Development and Inequalities who will present the new WHO European Health Strategy: Health 2020.

ISEP researcher Dr Jenny Muir is part of a research team carrying out a three-year study into the impact of recession and the rebalancing of Northern Ireland’s economy on its neighbourhoods. The research is led by the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR) at Sheffield Hallam University and the third partner is the University of Sheffield. The research is being undertaken for the Office of the First and Deputy First Minister as part of its Equality and Social Need research programme.

Research findings on Social Exclusion and Ageing in Diverse Rural Communities was presented in the Council Chamber, Queen's University Belfast. The reserach was funded by the Centre for Ageing Research and Development in Ireland (CARDI)  and allowed for the completion of two major studies on rural ageing across the island of Ireland. The Healthy Ageing in Rural Communities Network (HARC) draws its membership from the Irish Centre for Social Gerontology at National University of Ireland Galway, the Institute of Spatial and Environmental Planning at Queen's University Belfast, Rural Community Network, Public Health Agency (Northern Ireland) and FORUM Connemara.
