Research interests lie in the fields of planning law and planning practice and procedure. He is specifically interested in regulatory compliance and planning enforcement law. Other areas of interest include spatial planning, urban and rural development and contamination.

Current research projects

Spatial Planning and Networking (SPAN). This is a €4,600,000 project, funded by the European Union under Interreg IIIB and conducted with  partners in Ireland, France and Belgium.

He is currently preparing a research grant application for situationally based research linking theory to practice.
