PhD Research

Estimating Hydrological Extremes in the Context of Climate Change: A Comparative Study of Irish and Kingdom of Jordan Regimes

Supervisors: Dr. Trevor Elliot and Dr. Bjoern Elsaesser

Climate change is expected to have negative effects on water resources especially with the increased variability in extreme events such as droughts and floods. Climate change is not only a major global environmental problem, but also a concern for developing semi-arid countries like Jordan

The research aims to critically evaluate different methods of estimating extreme hydrological events and their suitability and applicability for arid and semi-arid regions investigations, with particular focus on future climate change and impacts. The focus of the research in order to construct climate change scenarios is through using stochastic weather generators to downscale climate variables. A weather generator can serve as a computationally inexpensive tool to produce site-specific climate change scenarios at the daily time-step.
