A laboratory based study into the performance of granular columns installed in soft clay with respect to settlement behaviour

Supervisors:       Dr. V. Sivakumar (Primary) Dr. J. McKinley (Secondary)

Biography: In July 2010 I graduated from Queens University, Belfast with a first class honours degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. I am currently undertaking research to investigate and segregate the three settlement stages of a foundation supported by soft clay improved by granular columns. The research will be undertaken through a laboratory based experimental program on clays which have been proven to be unsusceptible and susceptible to creep reinforced with compacted gravel columns. The testing will be carried under two different foundation configurations i.e. raft and isolated foundation loading.
