The 3rd Annual Harri Holkeri Lecture - 'Reflections on Brokering Peace in Divided Societies'

The Institute was proud to have the Former United States Senator and Majority House Leader, George J.Mitchell, to deliver the 3rd Anuual Harri Holkeri Lecture on 22 April 2015.

Senator delivered a lecture entitled 'Reflections on Brokering Peace in Divided Societies' to a packed Great Hall, which included such distinguished guests as Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister, Mr Martin McGuinness, His Excellency Mr Pekka Huhtaniemi, Finnish Ambassador to the UK, Lord David Trimble, Lord Reg Empey, Lord Robin Eames and Lord Diljit Rana.

At the lecture, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patrick Johnston delivered an introduction to the keynote speaker, Senator Mitchell, and also introduced His Excellency Mr Huhtaniemi, who spoke about former President, Harri Holkeri. After the lecture there was a short Q&A with Dr William Crawley, BBC broadcaster and journalist.

Address from the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, 23 October 2014

The Institute was proud to have the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins as Guest of Honour on 23 October, 2014.

President Higgins launched Remembering, Forgiving and Forgetting, an event at which members of the public were invited to discuss the balance between remembering, forgiving and forgetting the past.

At the launch event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patrick Johnston delivered a speech on 'Queen's as a Global University' and gave an introduction to the keynote speaker. Afterwhich, President Higgins delivered a keynote address on the theme of Remembering, Forgiving and Forgetting.
