| The contra-bass flute provides a flute band with an extra tonal dimension to the sound it produces, and Ballyclare is fortunate enough not to have one, but two, of these amazing instruments. In order to be able to play these flutes the flautist has to stand up, as shown in the picture opposite. In addition, the contra-bass flute requires plenty of air, and lots of diaphragm support to prduce a sound. In Ballyclare Vistoria the contra-bass flute plays the bass note on which all chords in the band are based. | |
