On Easter Sunday there is a dramatic change in mood with the 'Procession of the Resurrection' at 5.00 am. From time to time the choir sings Surrexit Dominos Vere, again by Manoel Dias de Oliveira, and the band plays dobrados, a particular genre of processional march for festive occasions. As the procession arrives back at the Cathedral, the bells begin to ring and fireworks are set off.

Surrexit Dominus vere, Alleluia.
Gaudet et laetare Virgo Maria, Alleluia.
Et apparuit Simoni, Alleluia.

The Lord is risen indeed, Alleluia.
Be happy and rejoice, oh Virgem Mary, Alleluia.
And hath appeared to Simon, Alleluia.

Then a mass is celebrated, in which the choir performs the other mass in their repertoire, this one by the nationalist composer Osvaldo Lacerda, which includes a 'Senhor', a 'Glória', and a 'Santo'. The mass ends with a performance of Händle's Alleluia, which elicits enthusiastic applause from the congregation.

In the past Easter Sunday concluded with the 'Coronation of Our Lady' and a Te-Deum, but these events have not taken place for some time.
