Welcome to the QUB
Safety Representatives Website
Safety Representatives are persons
appointed by recognised trade unions to carry out
functions as laid down by law (i.e. the Safety
Representatives and Safety Committees Regulations (Northern Ireland) Second Edition
1997). Training is provided by a 10-day course organised
by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. In addition some unions supplement
this training with their own courses. The major unions at Queen's have
appointed Safety Representatives who are entitled to sit on their
Local/Departmental Safety Committees.
The Queen's University Safety Representatives Committee is a Joint Trade
Union Safety Representative body that oversees Health and Safety issues at
Queen's and has been in existence since 1979. The Committee is a very active
body and has ensured that safety issues are given a high priority within the
University. The following unions are currently represented on the committee, Unite,
UCU and NIPSA. The Committee normally meets once per term and has regular
meetings with the Chair of the University Safety Committee. The Annual
General Meeting of the Safety Reps.
Committee determines the Officers and the trade union representation on the Health
& Safety Consultative Committee and other committees.
This is an evolving website and we welcome
all feedback.
