Profile

Brian graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2003 with a joint honours degree in Archaeology and Modern History. He has been working with the Centre for Archaeological Fieldwork since September 2003 and has been involved in a variety of excavations. Brian held his first excavation licence in late 2005 when he directed the archaeological excavations in advance of the development of the new library at Queen’s University Belfast. Brian has since directed a number of excavations on behalf of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA), including the excavation of a Bronze Age Cist burial on Rathlin Island, Co. Antrim, a burnt mound at Rossmacaffry, Co. Fermanagh, a series of Early Medieval ditches at Tullykevin, Co. Down as well as a phased investigation into a scheduled enclosure site at Ballycarry, Co. Antrim.

Brian has a particular interest in the study of lithic artefacts and has completed a number of lithic specialist reports. These include reports on the lithic assemblages from Ballyutoag, (Co. Antrim), Islandhill, (Co. Down), Armoy, (Co. Antrim), and St Thomas' Church, (Rathlin Island), as well as adding to research initiated by Dr Eiméar Nelis on the lithic assemblage from Creggandevesky Court Tomb, Co. Tyrone.

Brian is an assistant leader of the Belfast Young Archaeologists Club which was established in June 2006 and is based at Queen’s University Belfast.

Brian recently appeared on UTV's documentary on the Ulster Plantation, 'Plantation: The Truth and the Legacy. (December 2010)
