Siobhán graduated from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2005 with a BA Hons in Archaeology and Sociology & Political Science. She then attained her PhD in 2010 on the archaeological landscape of on the former McKenna Gaelic lordship of Truagh, Co. Monaghan.  This research was funded by a University of Ireland Lady Gregory Fellowship.

She has excavated and surveyed in both the contract and research sectors. Including the Cachermacnaughtan Learned Families Project, Burren, Co. Clare, 2005 – 2010, and The Discovery Programme’s Rural Medieval Settlement Project, 2005 – 2006.

In 2011 she took a work placement with South Dublin County Council to develop her GIS expertise and studied for a Diploma in GIS with the Dublin Institute of Technology. Before joining the Centre for Archaeological Fieldwork, QUB she worked with Monaghan County Council, The Heritage Council and the Royal Commission of Ancient and Historic Monuments, Scotland.

Siobhán’s areas of expertise include digital and geophysical survey and the application of GIS technology to aid archaeological and historical interpretation. Her research interests include Late Medieval and Early Modern Ireland, Europe and Atlantic region, Gaelic and Colonial Ireland and the social consequences of the expansion of market capitalism. She is a committee member of the Irish Post-Medieval Archaeology Group.
