Essay Competition 2007

In its efforts to encourage work in Canadian Studies, the Centre of Canadian Studies is pleased to announce an Essay Competition.The competition is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students currently enrolled at a university in either the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland.

Essays may address any aspect of Canadian Studies.

The prize for the best essay is £250.The winner will be announced in the Autumn of 2007 at the annual Queens University Belfast Eaton Lecture.

The deadline for entries is September 1, 2007.Essays should be no more than 5000 words in length and should conform to a recognised style of documentation within the author’s discipline.The entries will be judged anonymously by the Management Committee of the Centre of Canadian Studies.Consequently, authors should complete and attach the Entry Form to their essay and ensure that their name does not appear on the essay itself.The judges’ decision on awarding the prize is final. The Management Committee reserve the right not to award the prize.

Essays must be e-mailed to Dr Stephen Royle, Director, Centre of Canadian Studies, Queens University Belfast (email: canada@qub.ac.uk)and date-marked no later than September 1, 2007.

The Centre of Canadian Studies at Queens University Belfast has been officially recognised as a Centre of Canadian Studies since 1986. It is one of just four centres in the UK and two in Ireland. It encourages research and teaching about Canada within the University. It is distinctive for its outreach programmes, which aim to bring a greater understanding of Canadian issues and culture to the wider community. It also acts as a conduit, facilitating contact between communities and interest groups here and in Canada. The Centre accomplishes these objectives through a programme of seminars and conferences.
