Learning & Teaching

Students using library facilities

The Institute of Agri-Food & Land Use (IAFLU) offers degree programmes which focus on contemporary food and nutrition,  rural and environmental management, and agricultural issues and will give the industry the competitive edge needed to meet the challenges posed by European enlargement and a global marketplace.

IAFLU courses have been designed to be flexible, combining relevant science or social science with management skills.  They also capitalise on the University's strengths in the underpinning sciences of biology and chemistry and on relevant expertise in chemical engineering, environmental science and rural development.  Where appropriate external expertise from the college of Agricultural Food and
Rural Enterprise is also utilised.

Completion of these programmes will allow opportunities for progression to a broad range of postgraduate courses and, where appropriate, facilitate professional recognition.  The Food Quality, Safety & Nutrition programme aims to meet Institute of Food Science and Technology accreditation requirements.

Depending on the modules studied, graduates in the Land Use & Environmental Management programme will be eligible for registration as environmental impact consultants in the Republic of Ireland.

Further, accreditation with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (Commercial Property and Environmental Faculties) is being actively developed for this programme.
