Two IPLS solicitor trainees, namely Elizabeth Armstrong and Brendan Murphy, won the Third Annual EU Debate which was hosted by The Law Society of Ireland on 25 February 2009.
The Honorable Society of King's Inns, The Law Society of Ireland, The Graduate School of Professional Legal Education and The Institute of Professional Legal Studies participated in this year's debate. Each institution was permitted to enter one team of two speakers. Each team had 10 minutes to speak on this year's EU topic which was 'A two-speed Europe; good or bad for Ireland?'
The Honorable Society of King's Inns and The Law Society of Ireland argued in favour of a two-speed Europe. The Graduate School of Professional Legal Education and the Institute of Professional Legal Studies argued against it.
The Minister for European Affairs, Dick Roche TD, was the guest speaker and moderator. The event was sponsored by the European Commission Representation in Ireland.
