Mrs Fenton is Director of the Institute of Professional Legal Studies. She was appointed in 1998.
She was enrolled as a Solicitor in 1978. From 1981 she was principal in the firm of Conn and Fenton, Lisburn.
In 1998 she was appointed by the Lord Chancellor as a Legal member of the Mental Health Review Tribunals.
She was a member of the Mental Health and Learning Disability Review NI from 2003.
In 2005 Mrs Fenton was appointed as a member of the Independent Inquiry Panel of Eastern Health and Social Services Board (McCleery).
In 2005 she was appointed by Lord Chancellor as President of MHRT entitled to hear restricted cases.
She was appointed by the Law Society of Ireland as a member of the Independent Review of Vocational Legal Training of Solicitors in the Republic of Ireland 2007.
In 2002 she was appointed a Parole Commissioner (formerly known as Life Sentence Review Commissioner) by the Secretary of State (NI).
She is Chair of the Mental Health Review Tribunal Training Group and is Deputy Convenor of the Parole Commissioners User Group.
She is a Member of the Board of Directors of the International Academy of Dispute Resolution.
She was an external Examiner at Kings Inns, Dublin between 2005 and 2009.
She has presented papers at the Learning in Law Conference organised by the UK Centre for Legal Education, and at conferences for vocational legal providers throughout the United Kingdom.
She has facilitated at various workshops at LILAC, at CELT conferences, at MHRT training events here and in Scotland and at Parole Commissioner training events.
She has judged national and international student competitions including the Scottish National Client Counselling Competition, the Irish Client Counselling Competition, the Irish Negotiation Competition and the International Client Counselling Competition. She also judged the International Mediation Competition hosted by the International Academy of Dispute Resolution in Chicago in 2010.
