Biography:
Martin O’Brien was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 1989 and at the Bar specialises in Employment and Discrimination Law. He is also a trained mediator.
Martin was a part-time Chairman of the Industrial Tribunal & The Fair Employment Tribunal of Northern Ireland from 1998 – 2009. He is a part-time Chairman of the Appeals Tribunal and Disability Appeals Tribunal.
Outside the Institute, Martin serves on a number of Boards and Committees and is a member of the Board of Governors of Saint Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon.
Teaching:
Martin O’Brien was appointed a part-time lecturer at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies in 1999, and lectures in Criminal Procedure on Indictment, Liquor Licensing Law, Employment Tribunal Practice & Procedure and Professional Conduct for Barristers, as well as assisting with the delivery of training on advocacy and moot court competitions. Martin is a member of the Board of Examiners of the Institute, and is a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars on Employment Law.
