Union Theological College has a 150 year long tradition of academic excellence and practical training.
Over 80% of QUB Theology students decide to study at Union Theological College. They come from all ages and backgrounds, from all sections of the NI community, from across the UK and Ireland, and from overseas.
The College is situated beside Queen’s University Belfast, adjacent to the McClay Library and main University campus. Our refurbished buildings are modern, spacious, and fully equipped for the 21st century. Union Library is the most extensive theological library in Northern Ireland. With over 70,000 books, and taking over eighty theological journals, we offer a unique resource for study and research.
We have a thriving college community, built upon close staff-student relations. We are fully provided with recreational, social, and cafe/dining facilities including a student common room. En-suite study bedrooms are available. Worship and fellowship opportunities are highly valued by many students – but they are of course entirely optional.
Our size as a College makes it possible for us to employ 6 Professorial staff and a Senior Lecturer together with more than 20 part-time lecturers and professional office staff. Uniquely, our timetable offers a wide selection of module options to our second and third year students, including both traditional and more innovative subject areas. In all subject areas, we aim for contemporary relevance as well as academic excellence. A wide range of postgraduate study options is also on offer up to and including PhD level.
Many students come to Union to train for a specific form of ministry or mission or in order to deepen their understanding of the Christian faith and tradition. Many others come with no vocational aspirations but simply to study theology out of academic interest. All are equally welcome in the College community.
