UTC has a 150 year long tradition of academic excellence and practical training.
We have over 250 Queen’s degree students, about 65% of all QUB Theology students. Our students come from all ages and backgrounds, from all sections of the NI community, from across the UK and Ireland, and from overseas.
The College is situated at the heart of the Queen’s University campus, adjacent to the new QUB Library and Administration buildings. Our recently refurbished buildings are modern, spacious, and fully equipped for the 21st century.
Union Library is the most extensive theological library in Northern Ireland. With over 60,000 books, and taking over eighty theological journals, we offer a unique resource for study and research.
We have a thriving college community, built upon close staff-student relations. We are fully provided with recreational, social, and cafe/dining facilities including a new student common room in 2009. There are also 26 en-suite study bedrooms. Worship and fellowship opportunities are highly valued by many students – but they are of course entirely optional.
Our size as a College makes it possible for us to employ 5 professorial staff, together with more than 20 part-time lecturers and professional office staff. Uniquely, our timetable offers a wide selection of module options (including evening classes) to our 2nd and 3rd year students, including both traditional and more innovative subject areas. In all subject areas, we aim for contemporary relevance as well as academic excellence. A wide range of postgraduate study options is also on offer up to and including PhD level.
Students who wish to do so may supplement their Queen’s degree course with some of our practical training courses – such as a Certificate or Diploma in Youth Ministry.
Many students come to Union to train for a specific form of ministry or mission or in order to deepen their understanding of the Christian faith and tradition. Many others come with no vocational aspirations but simply to study theology out of academic interest. All are equally welcome in the College community.
