Irish Studies Initiative
The International Research Initiative, a major five-year investment, will develop further Queen's world-class strength in Irish Studies research. Much of this research falls under three strategic research themes:
- Ireland's Other Capital: Belfast: History, Representation, Reimagining;
- Political Conflict, Violence and Human Rights;
- Irishness in its Wider Setting: European and Global Perspectives.
The Initiative will fund two fellowships each year, to be housed in the Institute of Irish Studies where they will work alongside the Institute's fellows. In addition the Initiative funds international research studentships, and bursaries for international students undertaking PhD and M.A. programmes in any area of Irish Studies.
The Initiative reinforces the interdisciplinarity of Irish Studies at Queen's through a Steering Group drawn from the major Irish Studies disciplines:
- Professor Graham Walker, (Chair), Politics, International Studies and Philosophy
- Dr Elaine McKay (Administrator)
- Dr Dominic Bryan, Institute of Irish Studies/Anthropology
- Dr Eamonn Hughes, Institute of Irish Studies/English
- Professor Peter Gray, History
- Professor Ed Larrissy, English
- Professor David Livingstone, Geography
- Professor John Morison, Law
- Professor Anna McMullan, Drama
- Professor Sean Connolly, History
- Dr Katy Hayward, Sociology
- Dr Micheál Ó Mainnin, Languages, Literatures and Performing Arts
- Ms Deirdre Wildy, Library
The Initiative organises a lecture programme each year culminating in the Annual Irish Studies Lecture and a series of seminars, booklaunches and workshops throughout the year. To subscribe to our mailing list please send an email to the Initiative administrator e.mckay@qub.ac.uk
