Research Interests
Equality issues, popular culture and the Troubles, political imagery, Ulster Liberalism.
Current Research
Dr Gillespie is currently working with Dr Dominic Bryan on a project to explore the issues over the flying of official and unofficial flags and the display of symbols. A report on the Flags and Emblems project was published in 2005.

Dr Gillespie has worked as Research Officer on a number of projects including the ESRC funded Equality and Institutional Change in Northern Ireland in 2000 and the Linen Hall Library, Belfast’s Troubled Images CD-Rom, catalogue and exhibition - winner of the Ewart-Biggs Memorial Award in 2003.
