Biography and Irish Studies research interests
Awarded a Ph.D from Trinity College Dublin in 1998 for a thesis on Irish Politics in the Spanish Civil War. Subsequent research has primarily focused on republican and radical politics in twentieth century Ireland. Lecturer at Trinity College, 1997-2000, followed by a two year government of Ireland post-doctoral fellowship at the National University of Ireland Maynooth where I worked on biographical studies of the socialist republican, Frank Ryan, and the leader of the Blueshirt movement Eoin O’Duffy. Currently lecturer in Irish history at the School of History, Queen’s, where I am researching the 1916 Easter Rising. I am also interested in the history of republicanism, sports in Ireland, and commemoration.
