Creator of the Northern Ireland Transcribed Corpus of Speech (1990) (with Susanne West and Stephen Graham)
Creator of the Irish Component of the International Corpus of English (ICE-Ireland) (with Jeffrey L. Kallen, Orla Lowry and Anne Rooney) (2003)
Principal Investigator of two AHRB Research Grant projects:
Sociolinguistics of Standardisation of English in Ireland (2001-03)
Integrating Prosody, Pragmatics and Syntax in a Corpus of Standard Irish English (2003-05)
Grant Holder of Project J in the AHRB Research Centre for Irish and Scottish Studies (2001-05) for an annual symposium on language and politics dealing with the Gaeltacht and the Scotstacht in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Scotland, and subsequently to produce an edited volume of the papers, for Belfast Studies in Language, Culture and Politics, of which I am co-General Editor and co-publisher
