Biography and Irish Studies research interests
Professor of Economic & Social History since 1998. Major areas of current interest include: social change in rural Ireland in the 20th century; Living Standards in Ireland since 1700; and an emerging area for me: Irish environmental history. Community involvement focuses on human rights abuses by paramilitary organisations (IRA, UVF, UDA): author of 3 reports: They Shoot Children, Don’t They?.
